Steam distilling the seeds produces a pale yellow oil with a spicy-sweet, licorice-like scent.

Magickal Uses:
Anise/Aniseed is a powerful ally for divination and dreamwork. It aids in developing and increasing psychic abilities, especially clairvoyance, and offers psychic protection, particularly when dealing with the Otherworld. This protection extends to banishing evil and clearing negative energy. Anise/Aniseed is instrumental in stimulating the mind, heightening awareness, attracting spirits, and connecting with other realms. Anise/Aniseed is associated with purification and consecration as well as attracting blessings to the home. Use it to deal with emotions, loss, and love. Anise/Aniseed is associated with fertility, growth, sexuality, and marriage. It is instrumental when initiating change for renewal and starting over. Anise/Aniseed is also associated with balance, cycles, happiness, luck, money, and well-being.
Place a drop if Anise/Aniseed essential oil in the four corners of a space that will hold an open ritual to protect it from drama llamas, nasty folks, or just plain ennui.
If the energy in the home feels stagnant or murky, mix 6 drops Anise/Aniseed essential oil with baking soda and sprinkle around the carpeted areas. Wait and hour and vacuum.
Place a tissue containing a drop of aniseed essential oil inside your pillowcase to protect against night terrors.
Anise/Aniseed has long been added to wedding cakes since Roman times to ensure a long, happy marriage, filled with children, This is believed to be the origin of the wedding cake.
To make a difficult decision with the help of the gods, diffuse a blend of equal parts Anise/Aniseed and angelica root essential oils.
Romans bathed in fresh anise leaves before marriage to protect the union and ensure happiness. You can carry a sprig of anise to help you find happiness. Harness its power by adding a few drops of anise essential oil to a full tub of water** or drop into your shampoo before a date. **Don’t forget to always observe proper safety protocols when using essential oils in the bath. For magic involving purifying the intestines or improving digestion, draw the outline of a person on paper and cut it out (think ginger-bread man). Add squiggles where the intestines are. Place 1 drop of aniseed essential oil over the “intestines” with the intention of relieving the symptoms. Burn the paper and discard the ashes into moving water (a flushing toilet counts).
To reach other planes through divination, mix 3 drops anise essential oil with 1 tablespoon table salt and scatter it into a warm bath. Remember to bring a notepad and pen to record information received. Anise helps with sleep disorders as well, so try this in the evening for a great night’s sleep.
For couples trying to conceive, place 1 drop of anise essential oil on a tissue and tuck it in a red drawstring pouch beneath the bed to encourage conception and boost fertility.

Divination Simmer Potpourri
Implore Jupiter to guide your hand with this anise & mugwort simmer potpourri
3 fresh mugwort leaves, minced, or 1 teaspoon dried mugwort
3 drops aniseed essential oil
Place the mugwort and aniseed essential oil in the glass bowl of an oil burner. Fill the bowl with water, and light a tea light beneath it. This divination blend will help you discern the truth in a matter, make a difficult choice, or show you the way to happiness.
Emotional Balance Oil
Use this oil to restore stability after a period of grief.
1 drop aniseed – to help find fulfillment
1 drop bay laurel – for purification
2 drops heliotrope – for optimism
1 drop rose geranium – for blessing and happiness
4 teaspoons carrier oil of choice
Combine all essential oils in a dark colored glass vial/bottle to block out UV light. Mix gently to blend then add the carrier oil and cap. Roll the sealed bottle gently between your hands to mix the oils. Ask for blessings of Maat or Vishnu, if desired.
Optional: Add a chip of moss agate to your anointing oil for added strength in all endeavors.
You can also blend these essential oils and add then to a nasal inhaler tube for on-the-go support.
Ritual Tool Consecration Oil
Use this oil to bless your tools and dedicate them to magical use.
1 drop aniseed – to protect and purify
2 drops basil – for consecration
2 drops patchouli – for exorcism
4 teaspoon carrier oil of choice
Optional: 1 small chip dragon’s blood – to empower
Combine all essential oils in a dark colored glass vial/bottle to block out UV light. Mix gently to blend then add the carrier oil and cap. Roll the sealed bottle gently between your hands to mix the oils.
